Despite their alien-like appearance, nudibranchs are from this planet. In fact, these creatures have been roaming the ocean floor for millenia. As more scientists begin to study these creatures in depth, we are solving the mystery to their extraordinary abilities. A type of sea slug, nudibranchs are marine gastropod molluscs that thrive in the most extreme conditions without shells. Over 3 000 species have been discovered, with new and even stranger ones rising to the surface every year. Although devoid of protective armour, the nudibranchs’ bodies have shown a remarkable resilience to increased acidification levels due to global warming. While other marine animals struggle to survive in these temperatures, nudibranchs are proliferating. The super slugs have become crucial to understanding the effects of climate change in our oceans. Delve into uncharted waters and uncover the secrets of the nudibranch. Footage by Alexander Semenov was used in the creation of this film.
