Giving waste a second life: Did you know that only 9% of plastic ever produced has been recycled? To provide people with a more beautiful way of upcycling plastic — especially those that are harder to recycle, like old DVD boxes, contact lens cases, and thick plastic cups or containers — Müll Club accepts clean plastics from people across the UK and turns them into beautiful, practical pieces of decor and even furniture. Working with ethical beauty retailers, car brands, and the London Festival of Architecture, Müll’s products give new life and new perspective on what we waste, where it ends up, and how we can offer alternative solutions to some of our planet’s most pressing problems. Here are some cool facts about Müll that we love: 1) Microplastics never end up in the bin or their surrounding environment, as any extra cuts, bits that fall on the floor, or unused pieces all get collected and melted back down to be made into something new. 2) The studio is entirely powered by renewable energy. 3) Customers from across the UK mail their plastics to the Müll team via Royal Mail. This ensures that no extra trips for deliveries are made to the Müll studio, as everything is delivered along the daily postal routes. 4) Those who send their plastics to Müll can track their impact on the Müll Club web platform. Thank you to Charlie for welcoming us into her studio on a beautiful sunny day in Margate, and for doing such inspiring and creative work.
