The Old Man in the Airplane

The Old Man in the Airplane

Airplane home is a project by Bruce Campbell to convert a retired Boeing 727-200 into a home. Bruce lives in his airplane just outside of Hillsboro, Oregon. But the Airplane Home movement is about much more than this one project. Bruce envisages a future where planes and jetliners can be repurposed, and recycled into livable spaces. He even has plans for entire neighborhoods made out of airplane homes. Bruce has a wide range of knowledge and an interesting way of perceiving the world. Our conversation focused less on the practical side of airplane home, and more on philosophical questions about sustainability, recycling, a culture of waste, and his views on the state of the world and what we can do to change our future. The film is called The Old Man in the Airplane, Bruce's own words, to highlight the man, what drove him to create this unique house, and on his airplane home mission which he is continuing to develop, rather than simply focusing on the fact that somewhere deep in the Oregon woods, there's a retired jetliner lying amongst the trees.
