Living Stories
3 Episodes
Almost anywhere you travel in the world, you will come across stories that -- somehow-- every local knows by heart. They are myths that appear to be intricately woven into the fabric of the culture. In a real way, they help connect people to the land, and to the natural world. We call them "Living Stories" because it is as if the stories are breathing on the lips of young and old, changing even as the world around us is changing.
Join us on a captivating journey through extraordinary landscapes. From the mystical realms of Greenland's Arctic circle to the sun-kissed shores of Senegal's coastal towns, to the verdant heart of Brazil's Amazon rainforest. Discover the deep, often strange and even violent images that bind people to deeper meanings, culture, and the natural world.
"Living Stories" go beyond the usual mythological tales, because every day indigenous people are updating these stories to confront the new reality. The climate crisis, biodiversity loss, and the erosion of natural systems are central themes, and the ancient wisdom in these myths are always given a distinctly modern twist.
"Living Stories" present the rest of us with a powerful call to action. They urge us to listen to the wisdom of the many 'Mother' deities-the collective voice of the natural world-and take meaningful action in our own lives to protect the environments and cultures in our beautifully diverse world.
