Clean the World
Hotel soap that saves lives. Five million bars of soap are thrown away every day by hotels in the United States alone. This company is turning that waste into new soap and donating it to those who need it. We recently visited one of Clean the World’s recycling operations centres in Florida and were amazed by the incredible work they are doing. The soap is sorted, refined, and sanitised before being compressed into new bars. With the help of Carlos, who has been there almost since the beginning, they have so far managed to upcycle 85 million bars of soap. They are also partnering with other small businesses that are innovating ways to recycle the plastic bottles from hotel toiletries to create things like new refillable bottles and even bricks for construction. The soap bars are sent to various international NGO partners providing access to hygiene products to millions and are also used in larger hygiene kits sent around the world. Hygiene-related illnesses are among the top two causes of childhood mortality worldwide. Solutions like this have a huge impact not only on reducing waste but also on saving lives.
