Felipe Rodríguez Vásquez is willing to risk everything to protect life on planet Earth. The photojournalist began his conservation journey documenting conflict and socio-political issues in his home nation. “Colombia is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, but the political situation makes it a very difficult place to work in conservation or in rural areas,” Vásquez explains. In 2019, it was named the most dangerous nation to be an environmental activist. That hasn’t stopped Vásquez. He founded BlackMoon Project, a filmmaking initiative that tells stories from here and around the world, focusing on rural communities and documenting how they are key to coexistence. “We have carried out projects on many continents because this is one fight,” he says. “What’s happening in Africa matters in Asia, and what happens in Asia matters to South America. We are one.”
